National Louis University (NLU) is introducing a new, exciting, and affordable educational opportunity for Au Pairs and other international students beginning this summer at their Washington, DC satelite campus location! Registration will be opening soon!
Au Pairs can complete their entire educational requirement for $500 at NLU in Washington, DC over two intensive weekends this summer or next fall. There is both a 45 hour, one-weekend (3 credit equivalent) and 90 hour, two-weekend (6 credit equivalent) option available. Online registration will be available soon, but since the spaces will be limited in each of the four weekends offered this year, interested Au Pairs are encouraged to email as soon as possible to reserve a space. Early registration incentives will be offered for this initial program opening. The first weekend course offered is coming up June 24-26, 2011 and the early registration deadline is May 1. There will also be a regular and late registration deadline
If you have more questions about it, please feel free to email: aupair.classes@nl.edu or myself at adriana.ferreira@lcc.culturalcare.com
I would be happy to forward to you a fact sheet with all the information about those classes.

Expressing gratitude

Many times, we have our everyday life watching how people do so many kind things for us. Often enough, we ended up forgetting to express gratitude for those acts.
Besides saying “thank you”, you can express gratitude in many ways. The latest Buzz blog edition has some hints on that:

Guess who is turning 50?

It is The Cat In The Hat!!! And we are the ones who have tons to celebrate.
We all know how important it is to read to our children everyday. The challenge is to keep them interested. And what a challenge! In 1954, Times Magazine brought up a problem that was bothering Americans, children who did not want to read.
Dr. Seuss heard them all and put together a book with 236 words that no 6 years-old children could put down. The Cat In The Hat is still a big hit 50 years later and a great cultural American piece of literature for children. It is also a fun way to approach the English language, for au pairs and for children.
If you want to learn more about its interesting story, go to NPR.org:

Summer weekend classes (Baltimore and Chicago)

Thinking about taking a Summer weekend class? One of my au pairs experienced the classes, and most of them will return for a second time. Here is her opnion:
“I can recommend the weekendclasses. The toefl in january was cool, but I havent learnt much, cause it was too much info in a too short time and we couldnt get into details.
The second weekend was also not much learning like it would be in a college. But you get many interesting tips for behaviour management, or stress management, for example. And you can choose the courses.
But really cool is, that you meet plenty people, and you stay in a hotel and don`t have to worry about food. Everybody would enjoy that. Then, there is a tv night, a pool and in the summer, you can chill on the grass outside in the sun.
And many au pairs are from Bethesda or DC area, so if an au pair comes new into the country, it would be a easy way, too, to meet people who live close but, are in another lcc group for example. Also it`s easy to travel there, they pick you up from airport or train station.”
Yes, I would go there as well. So, hurry up! There are only a few spots left. Here is the schedule:
Remaining Summer Courses
June 5-6, 2010 Experiencing America- Maryland (15 slots remaining)
